How to Read a UV/DTF Printer Nozzle Check (2026): Gaps, Deflection & Missing Channels

Read the pattern before replacing parts
A nozzle check shows you where to look first. It does not prove that the printhead is damaged. Save a clear photo, identify the pattern, then follow the matching check below.
Choose the Pattern You See
A few missing lines
Check the nozzle area, cap seal, wiper, and recent idle time.
One channel is missing
Check ink level, tubing, air, damper condition, and cap seal.
Ink drops out mid-print
Look for a sustained ink-flow or pressure problem.
CHECK 01
A Few Lines Are Missing or Deflected

- Compare the gap positions before and after one normal cleaning cycle.
- Check the cap top and wiper area for dried ink or a poor seal.
- Confirm that the carriage parks correctly.
- Use only cleaning fluid suitable for the actual ink system.
If the same nozzles remain missing, stop repeating deep cleaning and inspect the ink path and service station.
CHECK 02
One Color or White Channel Is Missing

- Confirm that the ink tank or cartridge is not empty.
- Check that valves and clamps are in the correct operating position.
- Inspect the line for large air gaps, kinks, sediment, or loose fittings.
- Inspect the damper and cap seal without assuming the printhead has failed.
- If delivery looks normal but the channel is electrically silent, ask a technician to check cables, boards, and head electronics.
CHECK 03
The Test Looks Good, but Ink Drops Out Mid-Print
A short nozzle check uses less ink than a long production pass. A normal test can therefore hide a sustained flow problem.
- Restricted damper or filter
- Weak ink supply or pressure imbalance
- Air entering the ink route
- White-ink settling or circulation problems
CHECK 04
Cleaning Runs, but Nozzles Do Not Recover

- Inspect the cap top surface and seal.
- Check the wiper and cap pads.
- Look for a blocked drain tube.
- Confirm that suction and pump movement are present.
A cleaning cycle cannot recover the nozzles if the cap does not seal or waste ink cannot move away.
Stop and Ask a Technician If
- All channels disappear together.
- You see cable, board, voltage, or head-related errors.
- Ink is leaking near electrical parts.
- Normal cleaning does not change the pattern.
- The next step would require pressure flushing or printhead removal.
Do not force cleaning fluid through a printhead unless an approved service procedure allows it and a trained technician controls the pressure.

Does a bad nozzle check always mean the printhead is damaged?
No. Air, restricted flow, a poor cap seal, residue, cables, settings, or control faults can produce similar symptoms.
Should I keep running cleaning cycles?
No. If one or two normal cycles do not change the pattern, inspect the ink path and service station instead of repeating deep cleaning.
